1 Year Blogoversary

Thursday July 24, 2008   ~   8 Comments

anniversary.jpgWell, as of this week, I've been blogging at edstetzer.com for 1 year. It has been enjoyable, rewarding, and (at times) challenging.

We have released and discussed a lot of research. In addition, it has allowed me to share parts of my life (like moving and rolling my car,) my thoughts on the church and her mission (like the meanings of "missional"), and encourage dialog on issues I believe are important to the Kingdom of God.

The blog has included:

  • Talking about movements, history, and race.

  • Having edifying dialogue even when you disagree,

  • Telling the truth about my denominational situation even when people don't want to hear it,

  • Sharing family traditions, and

  • Responding to public accusations of plagiarism.

And, surprisingly, the blog itself has been quoted in AP, UPI, USAToday, and World Magazine (reminding me to be careful in what I say!).

It is my hope that the 330 post have helped to facilitate thinking and conversations that can be beneficial to all who participate. I look forward to the next year of blogging and hope you will help to make this blog better by jumping into the conversations.

Ed,

I can vividly remember sitting next to you (there may have been one guy between us I think) in a conference room at Cuyahoga Valley Community Church in Broadview Heights Ohio. You hung out with all of us poor church planters and dazzled us with your insight. It was like hanging with Bon Jovi perhaps. Anyway...during one of the "breaks" you were sitting there and I asked you if had any plans on starting and keeping up with a blog...that I (and many others) would eat it up if you did.

and you laughed...

and you shook your head...

and you said..."um, NO".

you mentioned the time and aggravation factor, plus, how could you write and sell books if you spent your time and creativity on a blog you joked.

and I was bummed.

then, around a year later (I can't remember the exact time frame off hand) I read on someone’s blog somewhere that "ED STETZER HAS STARTED HIS OWN BLOG!" I was so overjoyed that you actually remembered our heart to heart and took me up on my advice.

and a year later I'm so glad you did.

thanks Ed!

Ed,

Happy Blogversary! It was actually the research and your "telling the truth about your denominational situation" that brought me to your blog. While I do not hang my hat on every thing denominational related - I am family. Heck, I was named after a Baptist church even. Guess that means I was chosen.. ;)

My prayer is that things will not be the same. That we will grab ahold of what a gift the moments in life truly are and how we are to be on mission wherever we may be. That we will let go and let the Spirit have free reign. And watch what happens!

Thanks, Ed.
