We Interupt This Blog

Sunday August 31, 2008   ~   12 Comments

If you know anyone in the storm path or serving evacuees, feel free to link them below so we can follow them and pray together.

Here are a few Twitterers to get you started:

NOLA News Twitter feed

Dino Rizzo and Dan Ohlerking, Healing Place Church, Baton Rouge.

The Healing Place Church is a twitter-friendly place. Since they are in Baton Rouge they did not evacuate but did get hit. I am following Dino and Dan-- and am praying for their efforts.

An important note: though their web page is currently down (and as of Monday night they have no power), their whole staff is able to communicate with one another over twitter-- and many church members and friends can follow along as well.

As long as they have cell reception (which tends to be a better power source than residential electricity) they can keep in touch.

Some others:

IMNewOrleans Church Planter Rob Wilton in New Orleans.

Rebuilding Lakeshore, a ministry of Lakeshore Baptist in Mississippi.

Thom Reagan, pastor in Fairhope, Alabama.

Jamie Dunbar, from Mandeville, LA.

Twitter will give you a better read moment-by-moment, so if you don't already subscribe, this would be a good time. (I will also be listing folks who twitter on my twitter feed.) Or, you can read it using your brower by clicking the links above.

Feel free to list blogs and twitters below.

FYI, Stacy's mother-in-law (and Michael's mom), Mel Timberlake, has a lot of family in Louisiana near the coast. Her mom and siblings live there. She requested prayer for them in our Beth Moore class Wednesday. I do not know if they have evacuated.

well, you've already goy my personal favorite up there @dinorizzo. But theres more - like @robertpooley, and a whole bunch of twitterers from the hpc team: @tweez, @the_lance, @tstraight, (@caroleturner is one of the team here too), @songdavid, @dup, @bbizzle, and myself (@danohlerking) to name a few.

@johnsiebeling and @donmichaeln from the life church of memphis are doing a lot with people who have evacuated to their area.

thanks for allowing this blog to serve for the time being as a resource for people to connect like this. cool idea.

I'm a Church Planter in Covington, LA, riding out the storm at my church. It's not looking to bad for us so far on the North Shore of Lake Ponchatrain in St. Tammany Parish. Our hearts and prayers are with those to the west of us. I'll be posting pics, etc. from our area on my blog at www.lanecorley.wordpress.com. Please keep us in your prayers.

thank you for this blog. I am a doctor blessed to lead the medical ministry of Healing Place Church. We have 2 mobile medical units that are stocked and ready to roll as needed.

My Twitter is @cleblancmd and our blog is www.drcheri.blogspot.com

Thank you for your prayers. Already seeing that results with a weaker storm.

Blessings,
Cheri

Ed:

Thanks for these links. Jamie Dunbar would probably chuckle at being described as a pastor, however. She is a NAMB worker who serves with Don Elbourne, pastor of Lakeshore Baptist Church. They were ground zero for Katrina and have been one of the most energetic groups in rebuilding the Waveland, Lakeshore, MS community ever since. www.rebuildlakeshore.com is their website.

If NOBTS had not evacuated the student families, I would have totally been tweeting the storm/recovery. Hopefully I'll be able to come home before Monday.
