I have enjoyed some of these, but I must say, the Calvinism of these guys is going to rip apart a large piece of the Body. Everytime I think I am "open" to hanging out and working with diffrent folks for the cause of Christ (AG, CoC, UMC, SBC) I am forced to deal with a hyper-Calvinist and find myself unable to. That is that MY problem, but when they preach such false doctrine, I am not sure what else to do.
What is the difference between these Reformed folks who preach limited atonement and the United Church of Christ who preached symbolic atonement? (at best)
Am I the only one who sees this split coming a mile away? Is this "top down" drift between the pews and the seminaries any different than the leftward drift in the mainline 50 years ago and then the people woke up and said "Where is my church?"
I am not SBC or in an evangelical communion, so maybe I am missing the point? But if Christ did not die for the the sins of the world, how creepy a Gospel is that?
Geoff,
I see no need for Calvinism to be divisive though I find that many Calvinsts are just that.
But, there are many who have an irenic spirit and are happy to work with others-- like the people at this conference.
Ed
Agreed on both. And thanks for even responding to my comment that looks a little childish and bullheaded now that I re-read it. I am becoming my father- which is fitting considering this Sunday!
I was at this conference and I am not going to say if I identify with Calvinism or not because it is irrelevant.
The men that spoke love Jesus more than anything, love his church, and have committed their lives to his mission.
I would caution anyone who has a stereotype or assumption of calvinistic teaching to listen closely and be discerning. The enemy would love to divide us using our own assumptions.
The men at this conference were very humble and the biggest theme I observed was repentance. Please listen to the messages and you will hear wisdom and passion.
The enemy would love it if you made this about whether you agree with Calvinism or not, that certainly was not the point of this conference at all.
