The video of our Advance09 panel is up. Take a look.
Interestingly, John Piper's first answer led to this clarification. The clarification is well worth your read just to get a take on how we might view modern culture.
Also, several people have asked me about my comments about missions cooperation being the doorway to theological compromise. (I think that surprised some people.)
However, there is little question that this is an historic pattern. I wrote a bit about it a few years ago here. My answer in the video gives more details.

2. Ed: Thanks for your clarity. I understand better something that has been a challenge in our missional-incarnational church. We are including a lot of people that would not be comfortable in a traditional church. Often there is tension with various peoples' liftestyle choices conflicting with others. Now I can urge away from "theological compromise" and towards "candid communication" as we journey together despite our differences. Have I oversimplified?
I have very personal comment to discuss. I am Deaf and I know very well about Deaf Community's needs. We need to emphasize community's needs more than meeting doctrinal goals. I like one church have statement of core beliefs.
In essential beliefs – we have unity. -Ephesians 4:4-6
In nonessential beliefs – we have liberty. – Romans 14:1, 4, 12
In all our beliefs – we show charity.
- I Corinthians 13:2
I live in rural area where there is 13 churches available, only two churches provide interpreter. Do I have to go to a particular church and bow to their doctrinal statement?
That is why I feel we should encourage inter-denominational for Deaf community, putting community's needs more important than doctrinal debates.
William,
I have no difficulty with interdenominational cooperation. I just speak of how we need to do so with discernment.
Thanks,
Ed
Why would you need to buy anything for the first baptism,if you believe in baptism by immersion, unless if you are not near a healthy body of water?
