Book Title Contest -- Yes It Even Includes Reward Money!

Monday August 3, 2009   ~   154 Comments

I need your help.

I need a home-run title and subtitle for a book I'm writing with Warren Bird (for release in April 2010 at the Exponential Conference). If the publisher uses your title, we'll give you a double award:
(1) we will name you in the "acknowledgements" page, AND
(2) we'll mail you your choice of 3 books from a list of 30 title options we'll supply.

Standards: Title/subtitle need to be:
1. Distinctive, unique and compelling.
2. Clearly forecast what the book is about
3. Use the phrase "church multiplication movement" (probably in the subtitle)

Audience: Big-picture church planters, especially network leaders, who want to move from "addition" to "multiplication." If you attend Exponential, that's the core audience.

Gist -- what the book is about:
The book can be summarized in two words: multiply everything. That means to build environments where leaders spend most of their time reproducing themselves, and to use structures that readily lend to being replicated. That perspective also involves a huge commitment to permission giving, empowerment, risk taking and innovation. To maintain something is far easier than to train someone else to do it, and also to instill in that person the heart and skill to train yet others.

The book will include as-of-yet unreleased research in addition to examples and guidance on how to foster Church Multiplication Movements.

Our hope and prayer is that this book will inspire you to form not just a network, but to help develop a church multiplication movement - an explosive pace of birthing of new churches, all of which engage lost people and replicate themselves through planting even more new churches.

Our best ideas so far (but none of them clear winners):
1. Viral Churches: From Church Planting to Movement Making
2. Viral Churches: Fueling a Church Multiplication Movement in This Generation
3. Orchards: The Move from Church Planting to Church Multiplication Movements
4. Orchards: Not How to Plant a Tree, But How to Grow a Field Full of Orchards
5. The Blue Ocean Book: Creating Uncontested Space for a Church Multiplication Movement

This is enough to give you the idea. What do you think?

What if the Holy Spirit ran the Church?

Church (HS) (putting the Holy Spirit to the top and right of the word church like saying church squared)

I know you did that article for Outreach (according to Google), but the idea remains. What would happen if the Holy Spirit were totally free to move at His pace? I think it would be a church multiplication movement. You see where I'm going with this...

Transforming a traditional looking cross into an 'X' may be an idea. Or even a large 'X' with a background of innumerous 'x's. (Now I am talking graphics and you are talking words.)

The following suggestions play on the exponential function as a mathematical construct.

eX factor: multiplying churches for exponential growth

[The title would show the constant "e" raised to the "x" power, which is the mathematical definition of the exponential function. Your intro could discuss God as the constant "e" in the equation (the same yesterday, today, and forever), while the "x" factor describes the variables involved in moving from addition to multiplication based on your research. A very brief explanation of the math behind it could clearly make the point.]

Other ideas related to the exponential function (constants raised to the nth power) are:

eXplosive growth: multiplying churches for exponential growth

(again, the "x" would actually appear raised in the title)

N powerment: Empowering Leaders for Exponential Church Growth

The Power of oNe: Releasing Church Leaders for Exponential Growth

Reproducible Church: Risk Taking and Disciple Making as Foundations for Church Planting

This is on my mind because my wife and I are laying the groundwork to start a disciple-making movement near Boston, MA. When people ask what kind of church we are starting they want me to keep it confined to the typical boxes (ie house church, cell church, traditional church, etc.). I'm wanting everything to be reproducible so I've started telling people I'm starting a reproducible church.

It sounds like your new book is similar in thinking to some of the thoughts we are having here in Boston. Regardless of whether or not this becomes the title I hope you can use the concept to help people see the need to invest in others and stop creating a dichotomy between the professionals and the spectators.

I would love to hear your feedback on our disciple making movement idea. Please contact me at my email address or website if you are interested in our thoughts. For my part, I am looking forward to your book.

I'm thinking nano because it is a small prefix measurement for time and lenght. Nano in greek means dwarf. The dwarf church is on the move. Dwarfs of fictional variety, live underground and can cause quite a rumbling. Nano is 10/-9. It is very small but powerful. Micro is millionith and Nano is billionith. Church multiplication is to reach the billionith person. Nanobots are very small fast technology moving individuals with a common purpose. So with this in mind here are my titles: Nano generation, nanolegion (this is a fine way to reverse the legion mentioned in the Bible who were of the demonic variety), Nanopower, Nanotech, Nanosmart, Nano over giga (see relevant unit of measure), Red dwarf church, Nano multiplication, Nano's moving together, Nanoway
scientists believe that one day nanobots could be injected into the bloodstream and find exactly where someone's cancer is and eradicate it. Makes me think how a focused nano level movement can work together to bring a more pure spotless bride to the altar of Christ's deliverance and healing.

Product > Sum

Multiplication > Addition

x > +

x > + = Now

X = Future

The Product is Greater than the Sum.
Moving from addition to multiplication in Church Planting.

Old Math, New Numbers

A cool design for the cover could be inspired by the old "School House Rock" videos. This would be Church House rock, educating the church in the next level of Ministry Arithmetic.
